I’m coming to really look forward to receiving my Birchbox each month! It’s nice to try new products and really hone in on what I like and what I don’t. Sometimes I feel like I know nothing about make-up or beauty care, so having a monthly little lesson is just what the doctor ordered.
what’s in my box?
spectrum collections unicorn tears wonder sponge
“To achieve truly flawless make-up, this is the tool that you need. The perfect partner for cream, mineral or liquid formulas, blend them seamlessly into skin with the rounded end while the pointed tip gest to those hard to reach places. “
my impression: I wasn’t too sure at first, after reading that you wet the sponge, which felt a little counterintuitive. However, I used it to put on my BB Cream, and it went on like a dream! I was able to get all the way up to my lash line, which I almost never manage to do. It made my makeup look perfect!
theBalm cosmetics stainiac in beauty queen
“Multi-taskers and beauty minimalists rejoice! This raspberry-tinted stain can add a long-lasting flush of color to cheeks AND a pink tint to your lips too! The water-based formula has a longer setting time than most stains to really let you blend it in.”
my impression: I tried it on my cheeks and it didn’t look quite right, but it did add some color. So, I think I definitely prefer this as a lip stain, and it works well! The color blends in nicely and you can layer it for a stronger look, which I liked! It did dry out my lips the tiniest bit, but nothing a little chapstick can’t sort without ruining the color.
beaver professional hydro nutritive repairing shampoo and conditioner
“Forget going to extremes to repair damage, these gentle formulas are set to be your new BFFs when it comes to reviving hair. Both products hydrate thanks to avocado oil and aloe vera and cleanse your hair from root to tip.”
my impression: Shampoo with sulfates tends to dry out my hair so I was a little cautious about this. I did use it, and I liked it, but the only reason I wouldn’t use it all the time is that it’s not sulfate-free. The conditioner was a nice addition, though I didn’t feel like it completely moisturized my hair. I’m very picky about my hair products, because my hair is curly and dries out quickly, so unfortunately, this one was not for me.
vasanti brighten up! enzymatic face rejuvenator
“when your complexion needs a lift, the powerful papaya enzymes in this deep-cleaning formula will smooth and brighten your skin in no time! It’s packed with micro-crystals to slough away dirt, while aloe vera and coconut deliver a boost of hydration.”
my impression: This scrub worked wonders on my complexion! I noticed a difference right away! I could feel the grains that exfoliate, but they were really fine and not too harsh on my skin. It was also nice a creamy and felt full of moisture, so it felt great on my face!
rituals tao | wai wang mild exfoliating body scrub
“Take a little time out from your usual beauty routine for some extra pampering – this stuff is like a spa treatment in a pot! a blend of ultra-fine chinese bamboo particles and calming white lotus helps slough dead cells away to leave skin smooth.”
my impression: I was sent another rituals body scrub that I really enjoyed, and this one was no exception. It smells so light and fresh, and not too overpowering. The micro-beads are also very fine, so it’s not a grating scrub like so many of them are. This time of year, a nice scrub is just what I need!
vita coco coconut oil
“Formulated using coconuts from the same groves as their much-loved coconut water, this 100% raw blend is a beauty must-have for all skin types. It’s naturally packed with good-for-you fatty acids, making it a nourishing treat for skin, hair, body, and beyond!”
my impression: I’m so aware that coconut oil is a beauty thing these days, but I’ve never been one to use it. I was curious to try it, but I think it would have been better had it been a bigger sample. I used it as a conditioner in my hair for about 10 minutes before washing it out. To be honest, I didn’t have enough in the sample to really cover my whole head, since I have a lot of hair, so I don’t know if I can really attest to how well it works. I’d be totally willing to try it again though!
the verdict: Overall, I think this box made me feel like I was ready for summer, especially skin-wise. The face rejuvenator and the body scrub were lovely, and I loved the sponge and lip stain! I wasn’t too fussed by the shampoo and conditioner, or the coconut oil, but the oil I’d certainly try again. Overall, I’m pleased with the array of products to choose from, and the box was a super cute design as well!
