I’ve had quite a few things on my mind of late, and, well, if I can’t write about it on my blog, then where can I write about it? I’m calling it “Sunday Musings,” and anything is fair game. Will it be every week? Probably not… but knowing it’s there makes all the difference….
This Week’s Musings
This “Brexit” Business
I’m not going to rant about whether or not the UK should’ve voted to remain in the EU. My thoughts are more about the post-vote upturn of racism and abuse that seems to be happening. As someone who has emigrated to this country, I find it disheartening and hurtful. I see on Facebook and Twitter, people talking about things they’ve witnessed, mainly someone telling another person to get out or go back to wherever they’re from. It makes me feel a little less welcome, if I’m being honest… I abide by the laws of the UK, I pay my taxes, I work hard, and I’ve made the UK my home now. I hope, dear readers, that you stand up for people like me. Remember your fellow man, and stand up for them, regardless of where they are from, or the color of their skin, or their sexual orientation, or whatever other labels we use to separate ourselves from each other. Human is human. Let’s treat each other with the respect we deserve.
That Was A Good Film!
On a lighter note, now that our wedding has passed, I’ve had a bit more free time, and I’ve been watching some great films. P and I watched Eye in the Sky, Whiplash, Spotlight and Demolition to name a few. I also saw a trailer for Swiss Army Man, which looks so bizarre and brilliant. Have you guys seen it? I’m a big cinephile and love a good film that challenges me, so to have a bit more free time to watch some things has been a real treat. Have you seen any good films lately?
P and I went on a little date to Highgate Cemetery earlier in the week and it was beautiful! Highgate Cemetery has been on my list of things to do in London for quite a while now, so we decided to book a tour so we could see the West Cemetery as well as the East. I suppose going on a tour of a cemetery would be considered a bit morbid, but it was really interesting to hear about the history of the cemetery (and of London!). I didn’t think it warranted a full post, but I thought I’d mention it here. Have you ever been?
Changing My Name
I spent a bit of time last week going through all of my social media and changing my name. What a weird experience! I’ve not done it officially yet, but all of my social media now refers to me as Ghenet Pinderhughes Randall. I’m a real married lady now! I’ll get around to changing it officially, in the next couple of weeks, but for now, I’m content with just having it on Facebook.
Those are my thoughts at the moment. I’d love to hear what you all think! Comment below!
