I know what you’re thinking… I can’t just skip October and go straight to November, can I? I didn’t really want to mis out on one of my Birchbox posts but I’ve had a bit of an issue with receiving my Birchboxes lately. The courier service was basically claiming to have delivered my boxes to reception (whatever that means, since I live in a residential building and don’t actually have reception…) but I never received them. I’ve sorted it out now, but it took so long to get my October box, that I decided to just forgo posting about it. Luckily, Birchbox customer service is pretty great and they’ve sorted it so I’m no longer having delivery problems. Huzzah! I can finally get back to being excited about my boxes!
what’s in my box?
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Primer
“Does your lipstick vanish an hour into the night? This innovative treatment preps lips for colour! Vitamin E plump hemp and peppermint oils sooth and hydrate to help keep lipstick looking great, in place, for longer.”
my impression: This stuff is magic, I think. Not only did it keep my lipstick intact for ages, but my lips actually felt really moisturized as well! I used it first as a little bit of lip balm, and then reapplied when it was time for my lippy. I’ll certainly be willing to buy a full-sized primer, even if I just use it as lip gloss!
Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow Illuminator
“Fake that 8-hour-sleep glow with this multi-tasking BB cream! Not only does it even skin tone, mask imperfections, and control shine – tiny flecks of light-reflecting pigment add radiance aplenty too. “
my impression: I love BB cream. I don’t wear loads of make-up on a daily basis, but if I do, it’s usually BB Cream. The trouble is, finding a BB cream to match my complexion is a bit difficult. The sample was pretty light, but it actually blended in with my skin really nicely! It made my skin look smooth and even hid my pores for softer look. I used powder over it, out of habit, but honestly, i didn’t need loads! Will definitely have to give this one a go when it’s time for a top-up!
Nuxe Créme Prodigieuse
“After one too many all-nighters, don’t let your complexion give the game away! This Parisian fave is packed with blue everlasting flower to boost skin’s antioxidant levels, restore hydration, and boost tired skin.”
my impression: I loved the last Nuxe product I received, so I was pretty excited to give this a try! I’m very brand loyal when I find things I like, though I’m not afraid to try new things every once in a while! This cream didn’t disappoint. I was surprised by how thick it was, but it smells amazing and made my skin feel great!
Wet Brush Midi Wet Brush
“This detangling brush makes light work of combing through unruly hair thanks to it’s super thin, strong, and flexible IntelliFlex® bristles! Gentle on the scalp, yet tough enough to fight tangles – we love it”
my impression: I hate brushes. Or more specifically, my hair hates brushes. I really tried to like this brush, but I didn’t really work. In the end, after attempting to brush through my conditioned hair on wash day, I gave up. That’s not much of a review, I know, but combs are just about the only thing that can get through my hair, and even then it takes work!
Darphin Rose Aromatic Care
“During the rush of party season, it’s easy to forget to look after your skin. Show yourself, and your complexion, some love with this this soothing oil – it softens and smoothes, leaving skin feeling nourished and look radiant.”
my impression: I’m a big fan of facial oils. I find that my skin is really receptive to them. So naturally, I was keen to give this a try. I have to say, it didn’t take much for me to become a fan! It smells great, and massaging it into my skin made my skin feel really soft! Even the next morning, I could feel the difference! I’ll have some more of that, please!
the verdict: I admit, I wasn’t too sure when I opened this month’s box how I would feel about it. The contents didn’t seem connected in any way, and I wasn’t entirely sold on them. Still, after using them all (hairbrush aside, though I’ve gifted that to P and he seems pretty content with it…), I would say I’m pretty pleased with the box and the products featured this month! My favorites were definitely the Nuxe cream and the Darphin face oil!
