4 Tips for Wearing Makeup with Glasses

I’ve been wearing glasses so long I sometimes forget what my face looks like without them. Weird right? Or I often feel like I don’t look fully put together until I have them on. Even so, it took me a long time to figure out the best ways to wear make-up. I think a lot of people just think, oh, I’m wearing my glasses so I can’t wear makeup. If, like me, you wear glasses every day, well, you start to think maybe you should give it a try!

Now, I’ll be honest, I don’t wear loads of make up on a regular basis. More often than not, you can find me rocking a classic cat eye under my specs. Still, when it comes to wearing makeup with glasses, there are a few tricks and rules I like to follow:

Under Eyes
A good corrector/concealer will go a long way and help get rid of the bags under your eye and any shadow your specs might reflect. Try it once and you’ll see a huge difference! I use a corrector and concealer from Bobbi Brown that does the trick perfectly.

BrowsΒ + Cheeks
Your glasses may frame your eyes, but your eyebrows and cheeks frame your glasses. Make sure you keep your brows looking great! Invest in a brow kit with a gel, powder and a little pair of tweezers to pluck the stray hairs, or a great brow pencil to fill them in. Add a little blush to the apples of your cheeks to really round out the look. Whatever your method, don’t forget to pay attention to the rest of your face.

Eyes or Lips
I think this is definitely a general make-up tip. I wear a cat eye on a near daily basis, but sometimes I add a bit more oomph by pairing it with a bold lip, or by doing a little smokey eye. Never both at the same time though, or else it starts to get a bit too much!

Don’t Be Afraid to Add Color!
Do a cat eye in a bright color, or add a sweep of colorful eyeshadow on to really add a pop! If I’m adding color to my look, I make sure it compliments whichever frames I’m wearing that day. Just because you wear glasses doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with your make-up!

A very wise person once told me that your glasses shouldn’t be wearing you, you should be wearing your glasses! They’re a very useful accessory, but just because I need them to see doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to wear makeup too! Just make sure to clean them regularly, because there is nothing worse than dirty glasses…
