East Village Christmas Makers Market

December 12, 2016
I’m finally starting to get into the Christmas spirit. P and I got our tree up and I’ve managed somehow to finish all our Christmas shopping a bit early! Still, I’ve been toddling along, doing various Christmasy bits as well, like stopping off at the Christmas shops in Selfridges, Harrods and John Lewis, and visiting the London Bridge and South Bank Christmas markets. My newest find? The East Village Christmas Makers Market!

This sweet little market out in Stratford featured lots of cozy little treats, and it’s theme this year is something I’m currently obsessed with… you guessed it – hygge! I managed to catch it on the last weekend (it only ran on Saturdays and Sundays for 3 weekends) and though on the small side, it was lovely! There were a few tables of different local London businesses selling their wares and there were some really beautiful things!
My favorite stalls of the bunch? Geo-Fleur offered up some very sweet little succulents and cactuses, and some lovely pots to keep them in. Att Pynta‘s lovely little vases, candles, and small glass frames were only a portion of what they’ve sell, and all of it was oh so dreamy! I fell in love with the colorful cushions at Line Dot Studios; they were so snuggly and warm, and I’ll definitely be adding a few to our lounge once we get our new couch! Slow Split had some beautiful wood chopping boards that were done partially by hand and looked absolutely beautiful! There were a few other tables that I stopped to have a look at but these four were definitely the ones that stuck in my mind!
The two things that made the afternoon even better was the warm mulled rum cider I was sipping as I browsed, courtesy of One Point Eight, and it was really tasty, definitely very hygge! They also had a little Q&A session with Marie Tourell Søderberg, the author of Hygge: The Danish Art of Happiness, a book I’m sure you’ll recognize. She spoke about what hygge was to her and the importance of cherishing the moment (you can read a mini interview with her here). It was really interesting, and honestly, the perfect setting for such a conversation!
The East Village Christmas Makers Market is finished for the holidays this year, but it seems to be an annual thing they’ll be doing. I’d definitely recommend adding it to your list for next year’s holiday dos! I left with some serious decor ideas and two new books all about hygge, so needless to say, I’m a very happy bunny!
