Ghenet Actually || 3 Things I Love About Autumn

When someone says Autumn, what do you think of? Pumpkin spice lattes, cozy jumpers, mugs of warm apple cider? Yeah, well I’m fully in Autumn mode! Can you tell? Weird, right, that suddenly I’m all, get your jumpers and let’s get cozy! I do love the autumn, for lots and lots of reasons, but indulge me for a moment. I’m totally a summer baby, and I thrive in warm weather and sunshine. I’ve definitely had to learn how to adapt in cooler weather,  and how not to let the dark days affect me so much. Last year, hygge was my big focus, and now that autumn is back, I’m getting into those vibes again!

dusting off my books and candles!  It’s funny, I did a little poll on Twitter asking what people’s favorite seasons were and 75% said it was Autumn! Now, while I get sad about the pending winter that follows Autumn, I’m totally getting on board with the season! Don’t worry, I won’t suddenly start popping into Starbucks for a PSL, or anything pumpkin flavored for that matter, but a season that used to be about back to school and dreading the coming winter, has actually won me over!

The changing colors

I mean, who doesn’t love watching all the pretty trees turning vibrant shades of yellow orange and red? It’s so lush when that happens! Plus, London is such a green city that you can catch so much of it as they days go on!

Richmond Park, Greenwich Park, Regent’s Park, Crystal Palace Park… all gorgeous, all autumnal. The leaves have started turning and falling a little early this year, perhaps due to the crazy heat, but there’s that nice period, before all the trees are bare, that autumn really comes to life!

The cozy vibes

Am I the only one who fancies going on a nice autumnal walk through a park and then sitting down somewhere for a warm bevvie? Nope, didn’t think so! I’m also stocking up on jumpers, and thinking about nights in with candles and cocoa. I mean, it’s just so damn dreamy!

Summer is very full on and there’s almost too much going on. Once autumn hits though, life slows down and suddenly it becomes more about staying in. I’m 100% here for that. Give me all the cozy vibes and I will basically hibernate until May!

The hearty meals

I don’t know about you guys but my appetite changes from season to season. In the spring and summer, I find myself eating light, and not really being too bothered with big meals. I crave fruit (mainly berries and mangos) for the most part because it’s too hot to eat anything else. There are, however, certain flavors that I associate with autumn. Apples are one such flavor.

I used to go apple picking as a kid every year with my godparents. We’d pick apples and then head back to their house for hot apple cider (non-alcoholic) and bake pies. I’m not the biggest fan of pumpkin flavored things, but bring on the butternut squash,! Hearty, cozy meals are the order of the day!

Sometimes you have to focus on the little things, especially since the days are getting shorter and it’s getting tougher and tougher to get out of bed! I’ve got some good hearty recipes I’m excited to try, and I’ve even made plans to go apple picking with friends, like I did when I was younger! Roll on, Autumn, I say!
