We’ve been doing so much work on the flat in the last three years, and now a lot of the big structural stuff is done. That means, we can focus more on decorating and making the place really cozy. I’ve made myself a list of what needs to be done in each room in order to finish it, and I’m starting with our office! One of the things I really want is a wire memo board, I’ve been seeing them everywhere! For ages, I had my eye on some cute ones, like this cute one or this cool blue one, and then I thought, why not just DIY it!
It’s super easy to make, and looks oh so cute when you put it up! The longest bit is waiting for the coats of paint to dry, so all in all, it takes about 3 days or so?
1. Give your grid a wipe down, to remove any dust. Lay it down on some newspaper and spray with your primer. Wait 30-45 minutes, flip it over and spray the other side. Wait for it to dry.
2. Spray your grid with your colored paint, first on one side, and then, after letting it dry for about an hour, on the other side. If you’re using a color other than white, I suggest doing two coats on each side. Once your final coat has been put on, let it dry for about two hours. Then spray with your protective sealant on each side, allowing drying time in between.
3. While you’re waiting for the sealant to dry, hang the picture hooks. Measure the distance between the two outermost squares of your grid. On the wall where you’re hanging the grid, map out the distance, using an ‘x’ at each endpoint. Use a level to make sure the two end points are aligned.
5. Once everything is all dry, it’s time to hang! Lift up the grid and check to make sure your ‘x’ marks on the wall are in a good spot! If they are, go ahead and put up your picture hooks, making sure the nail goes through the ‘x’. If not, remeasure your ‘x’ marks until they’re right!
I was really pleased with how it turned out, and I can finally put some little cards and things I’ve had for ages! If I were to do it again, I might choose a wire grid that’s a little sturdier, but I actually like how light and flexible this one is! I’m completely in love with it, and it really is just one more finishing touch for the office! What do you think?
