In The Bag…
Ive always been a serial over-packer, and I’m trying to turn things around. In my excitement to go home, I’m trying to make a conscious effort to only pack what I need and not overdue it. Easier said than done! I’m pretty sure the last time I went home, my bag was overweight, even though it was only for a week!
The nerdy gal that I am, I’ve been reading up on packing methods and ways I can make sure I don’t overdo it when I’m packing for New York! At the moment, the only real packing trick I employ is rolling my clothes…
Still, I came across several methods that sounded interesting:
5, 4, 3, 2, Method:
Basically, this method says you bring 5 tops, 4 bottoms, 3 dresses/pairs of shoes, 2 swimsuits/bags and then 1 of everything else. This is intriguing but is it enough for two weeks?
The KonMarie Method:
Now, I love me some Marie Kondo. I followed her methods for tidying and it’s made such a difference in my home. So why not apply that to packing a suitcase too… Her method is a mix of taking only what you’ll wear, folding things and rolling others. An interesting premise!
Alot of what I found (hello, Pinterest!) was a lot of hacks and tips, so I’m gonna do a combination of these to see how it all goes… My main goal is to make sure I have space in my bag, and that I actually wear everything I bring!
I’m all packed and ready to go now, which is very exciting! Here’s what I ended up doing:
-6 tops, 6 bottoms, 3 dresses, 3 shoes, and 2 bags. Not quite the 5,4,3,2 Method, but it was helpful to have as a guide! I was slightly worried about the changeable weather, and wanted to make sure I’d be covered for anything without overpacking!
-A mix of folding and rolling. I folded the small items and rolled the bigger items to make the most of the space. I was able to have everything in one layer, and thus, plenty of room in my suitcase!
-I still packed all my underwear but who doesn’t do that?
– I packed a bit of make up to have just in case but not a load of it. Just in case I felt like wearing a little bit…
I was pretty proud of myself for managing to pack so well. Hopefully I left enough space for bringing back some goodies from NYC!
