I’m going to be upfront with you guys: my skincare routine is a MESS right now. So much a mess that it barely exists! I’m an adult, I swear! It’s just that skincare seems to be the place where I always manage to fail. The last time I talked about it was, oh, about a year ago? I’ve definitely fallen off the wagon. I’m down to the dregs of my Glossier Milk Jelly Cleanser and it’s time for a refresh.
I’ve spent some time recently trying to work out what products should be in my arsenal in the first place. Cue heading over to my fave beauty bloggers’ archives for a little inspiration!
I picked up a few tips from Anna’s post and ITG’s post about working out what products to use. Kristabel‘s post helped me feel like I’m not the only 30 year old who hasn’t quite worked this bit out! Kate talks regularly about her skincare, and I always jot down the products she’s using… I’ve also been following @LaBeautyologist on Twitter, and boy does she have some pointers!
I’ve never been a skincare connoisseur so I had a lot of things to work out!
Skincare Products I’m Currently Using
I’ve acquired a mishmash of products, through things I’ve bought, goodies in gift bags, and being gifted things from fellow blogger pals who were sent things they don’t need. I’ve not actually spent money on skincare in quite a while, if I’m being honest!
Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser and Priming Moisturizer:
You might remember when I jumped on the Glossier bandwagon when they first came to the UK. No regrets there! I’m using the same ones I bought which is a) perhaps not the best plan… do beauty products have a shelf life? and b) evidence that I’m not washing/moisturizing nearly enough. I do enjoy them though, so will definitely be topping up!
Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water:
My go-to make up remover. I am looking at other products though, because I think it could be better. It takes a few tries to get everything off and sometimes leaves my skin feeling a little dry. Also, definitely need to invest in those reusable make up wipes, so I’m not wasting so much toilet roll or cotton pads.
Origins Drink Up Intensive:
I got this as a little sample somewhere and I do love it! My skin soaks it right up! I don’t use it every day though. It’s great as a top up for now, but I’m trying to make it last as long as possible! I’m already planning on buying the full size!
Caudalie S.O.S. Thirst-Quenching Serum:
I’ll be honest, I can’t say that I love this product. Maybe that’s because I haven’t really been using it on a regular enough basis to notice a difference. Problematic, I know. Still, using a serum definitely feels like I’m giving my skin a leg up, so I’ll carry on for now!
Dr. Jackson’s Night Cream:
My skin really likes this stuff, when I remember to use it! Though, it’s a little pricey for my liking. The price point is about £40 for this little jar! It was gifted to me by a blogger pal, but I do feel like I’d expect a bigger size for that price…
Origins GinZing Scrub Cleanser, Lotion Mist and Gel Moisturiser:
This trio of skincare treats lives in my gym bag. I use them when I shower after the gym, and my skin is happy! They do leave my face feeling a little bit dry though. I definitely need something that will get rid of that post-gym clogged pore situation though!
I’m trying to be a little more grown up and actually take good care of my skin, so my routine is getting a major overhaul! It’s a bit random at the moment, to be honest!
Skincare Products I’d Like to Try
In my search for a good skincare routine, I’ve found a few products that I’d definitely like to try!
– The Eve Lom cleanser comes very highly recommended. It’s definitely pricey but I’m curious!
-I’ve tried the Liz Earle Cleanser before and really liked it! Definitely keen to try it again.
– Oil cleansers are new to me but I’m intrigued by this Bybi one!
-I’ve been wanting to try this Fresh Umbrian Clay Mask for a little while now as I’ve heard great things!
-This Glow Recipe Watermelon Mask is definitely a cult product and it sounds like just the thing to add to my routine!
-Aside from the ones I’ve already tried, Glossier has a few more skincare products, like this Mega Greens Galaxy Packs Mask that I’d like to try!
-Kiehl’s is a brand I tried once ages ago, and at the time it was definitely out of my budget. But I’m thinking of trying out this moisturizer, especially since it’s got SPF in it!
-The Sunday Riley Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water Cream has been popping up on my radar recently and I’m intrigued to try it!
-I tried this Ren Wake Wonderful Night-Time Facial ages ago as a sample in my Birchbox (way back when I actually subscribed…) and I really liked it! Definitely need to try out the full size!
-Herbivore is the new cult brand, and I’ve tested out their facial oils in store. This Orchid Youth Preserving Facial Oil is on my list to try!
The long and short of it is, my skincare routine needs a major overhaul. I’ve actually been doing some research about products I’d like to try, which is a huge change from my current state. It’ll take some practice, and a bit of investment, but I’m excited! It’s a work in progress, sure, but an important one! It’s time to start taking care of my skin once and for all!
