3 Tips for Creating The Perfect Basket Wall

I can’t believe how long I was staring at the blank wall in our bedroom. The only thing that was hanging on the wall was the broom we jumped at our wedding! Other than that, I didn’t know what to do, so I did what any good blogger would: I asked Instagram! It was my design-savvy pal Emma who suggested the winner: a basket wall! Well, once the idea was in my head, I couldn’t think about anything else, and here we are!

TIP #1: GATHER INSPIRATION

Once I decided that a basket wall was the way forward, the first place I went was Pinterest! Type in Basket Wall and you get a whole lot of images! I found it really helpful, because I then started saving the ones I really liked. Then I showed some to Mr. Actually, and he said he was more drawn to the basket walls that had a bit of color to them. Basically, taking the time to find a little inspiration and look at pictures really helped me hone in on EXACTLY what I wanted. After the Mr’s feedback, I started focusing a little more on basket walls that had some color. I ended up with a few photos I could use as reference that I really liked and were in line with my own ideas!

TIP #2: LOOK IN MULTIPLE PLACES FOR BASKETS

This one seems kind of obvious, but I think you get a richer experience when you source baskets from several different places. I’d seen the black basket from Sunday Living, and thought that might be a good option. I also looked at La Basketry for some colorful options as well as Trouva, one of my favorite places to look for homewares. The winner though, was Etsy. If you search basket wall there are lots of people selling sets specificially for basket walls, but I found some great sellers who had one off pieces too!

TIP #3: MIX, MATCH AND MOVE AROUND!

Once I had all the pieces I wanted, I laid them out on the floor so that I could get them into an order that I liked. I swapped things around, paired up different baskets, moved some of the other elements around, and repeated that until I had a set up that I liked.

Then I had my husband come take a look. He liked it! Perfect! Then, I left the room for a while and came back with fresh eyes to make sure I was happy with it. Seems like a lot, but once your basket wall goes up, that’s that isn’t it? I wanted to be absolutely sure before I got the nails out!

Once I was sure of how I wanted the basket wall to look, (and this next step is very important) I TOOK A PICTURE. Please don’t forget to do that! Once you’re putting baskets up, you’ll want something to reference! I promise you won’t regret taking a picture!

Then it was time to hang the baskets! The whole process of putting up the baskets took no time at all (though one or two of them needed a few extra nails…) and I’ve never been happier to finish a project!

The bedroom has really been transformed by our basket wall! I honestly can’t believe it took me so long to it sort out! I’m pretty excited to be able to share a little corner of our home here too. I talked about the lounge before, I know, but I always get a bit nervous sharing our home. Maybe it’s because we still have things we need to finish? Like replacing the bedframe that is directly opposite our new basket wall. It’s a big leather one that was given to us when we first moved in. I’m absolutely ITCHING to replace it! Once that’s done, maybe I’ll show a little more!

I love the idea of having the baskets with the sentimental items and plant mixed in. It makes it feel so personal and special. I’m keeping my eyes peeled to see what you do post leather bed frame!
