Revitilizing Our Home Office For Better Productivity

Working from home has come with a learning curve. I’ve had the urge to redecorate lately! Please tell me I’m not the only one… It helps that we booked in some work, and that really lit a fire under my butt. Since  Mr. Actually will be working from home for the next who knows how long, I decided our home office needed a little TLC. So, I grabbed a paintbrush, scrolled Pinterest, and got it looking spick and span! I’m so pleased with how it’s turned out, and I’m sharing exactly what I got up to!

The Wall Murals: You can find so many ideas for your home just by scrolling through Pinterest. I stumbled on this beautiful wall arch a few weeks ago and couldn’t stop thinking about it! So when I was thinking about what to do in the office, I remembered a tester pot of pink paint I had leftover from when I upcycled our coffee table and a lightbulb went off! A quick google search told me that mint, pink, and mustard yellow would be an excellent color combo, so I made a plan… After doing an arch by the door, I decided that the space by the window needed a little pizzazz as well! It really livens up the room too!

Shelves, Shelves, Shelves: We had very little storage space in the home office, save for an IKEA trolley that I’d upcycled a few years ago. It wasn’t really conducive to keeping things tidy, so I decided we needed a change. I really wanted to find a nice bookcase that complemented our writing desk, so the search began! After searching high and low, I found down a cute bookcase on Etsy that was perfect for the job. Then I decided that some wall shelves would also be a nice touch, especially for some decor bits. Who doesn’t like a bit of flair? The shelving really ties the whole room together, I think.

Declutter and Tidy: Our home office was pretty neglected for a while. As a result, it became the catch all room, and was very cluttered! Once I had the bookcase in place, it was time to declutter and reorganize things! I got rid of a lot of junk, got all of our important paperwork together, and generally cleared a lot of space! Now that there isn’t as much stuff, the room feels a lot calmer. Even the shelf under the desk got a makeover; it was definitely under-utilized! I also replaced the grid on the wall with one that was bigger and more durable to hang things on!

Decor Bits: As with any room, the devil is in the details! So I gathered a few bits that we had around the flat to complement the home office! It helps that we had some shelves in the lounge that had been taken down, so all those bits had been displaced! Some of them I got rid of, and others, I decided to put in the home office! It really ties it all together I think, and I’m so happy with how it’s all looking!

All in all, the home office is feeling much nicer now. Mr. Actually has told me repeatedly that he loves it, and that it’s made a difference in his work day. Your environment makes such a big difference! There are a few things I need to finish… mainly, the chair needs replacing (and I’ve got my eye on a cute one from West Elm) and I need a pot for the plant in the corner!

Our home office also doubles as a second bedroom if we ever have an overnight guest (there’s a blowup mattress in the cupboard) and honestly, I feel much better about having someone stay now! I’m so glad I’ve taken the time to inject a little life in to this corner of our home!
